The Directors’ Forum, themed “A Decade of Mainstream Filmmaking”, had two parts: keynote speeches and a roundtable. It was hosted by the China Film Association and the Xiamen Municipal People’s Government, co-hosted by the China Film Directors’ Guild, and organized by the Film Art Center of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Yang Ye, deputy secretary-general of the China Film Association, and Li Shaohong, president of the China Film Directors’ Guild, attended and gave addresses.
In the keynote session, Fu Ruoqing, Party secretary and chairman of China Film Group and chairman of China Film Co., Ltd., offered suggestions for the development of new mainstream films under the theme “Building a Leading Film Power with High-Quality Film Content”.
In the roundtable, six directors, Huang Jianxin, Yin Li, Guan Hu, Ning Hao, Xu Zhanxiong and Zhang Chiyu, discussed the creative direction of mainstream films, industry empowerment and the development of a talent pipeline, shared key experience and results in mainstream filmmaking, and explored ideas and measures for building a leading film power.
Participants said that new mainstream films uphold fundamentals while innovating, and that both their aesthetic awareness and their technological innovation are steadily building cultural confidence in local filmmaking. At the same time, rising public taste places higher demands and expectations on mainstream films. The new generation of filmmakers should integrate mainstream values, film art and the market, take the perspective of ordinary individuals, and create everyday heroes who embody the values of the new era.
