The Taiwan Film Exchange presented recent films and projects in development from Taiwan. Among the completed films presented, Only a Fool Would Love You, The Destined Goose and The Last Secret of Summer reflect Taiwan cinema’s tradition and distinctive approach in romance, fantasy and youth films respectively, and have broad commercial potential. The five projects in development, Assassin, Deadly Gold: The Price of Beauty, Lotto, Five Gunshots and Shaman Hotel, combine crime, suspense, action and other genres, showing the maturity of Taiwan’s film industry.

This was the second year of the Taiwan Film Exchange at GRIFF Industry. Building on last year, Only a Fool Would Love You and Assassin each signed distribution agreements for the mainland. Yin Xiangjin, General Manager of Xiangjin Pictures, recalled successful collaborations with the Taiwan film and TV industry, such as Someday or One Day, which grossed 400 million yuan in the mainland market, and expressed confidence in the market prospects of Only a Fool Would Love You. Alibaba Pictures also signed a cooperation agreement for the Taiwan film Assassin, its latest close collaboration with a Taiwan film team after The Pig, the Snake and the Pigeon.

Unlike last year, this year’s exchange presented a “custom IP incubation” model, led by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency, in which mainland writers are invited to write novels that Taiwan teams then adapt for film and TV. The model strengthens the integration of cross-Strait film and TV resources, brings cultural exchange into the creative process, and gives Chinese-language films new meaning and a broad audience base.
