Synopsis

Old Xiao has long been troubled by his daughter Xiaomo's marriage plans, and the conflict between them escalates into constant quarrels. In the middle of one argument, Doudou, a little girl from next door, comes over out of curiosity. Lively and restless, Doudou finds the quarrel between Old Xiao and Xiaomo amusing and watches from the side. Doudou plays a prank on Old Xiao to get back at him, but unexpectedly becomes a bright spot in his life. Old Xiao is furious at first, but looking at this clever, mischievous girl he finds her rather lovable, and over time the two become good friends. Later, Old Xiao is hospitalized with a knee injury; father and daughter begin to reconcile, but his stubbornness opens a rift again. Doudou's company warms Old Xiao, and her coming departure leaves him downcast. Xiaomo also senses her father's loneliness and aging, and a neighbor's words lead her to reflect on her own behavior. Old Xiao too realizes he cannot keep judging his daughter's life by old ideas. In the end he sets aside his authority and prejudice, and father and daughter regain their former closeness.
