Make Yourself at Home Here
Make Yourself at Home Here
Synopsis
Xiao Zuo, an editor, breaks down under deadline pressure and gets a gushing nosebleed, which unexpectedly disrupts the routine life she shares with her flatmates: Lao Guo, who runs a meal service for adults, and Xiao Hu, a tarot livestreamer. Tired of endless repetition and emptiness, they decide to answer reality with an absurd "rescue": finding the missing author D. Dressed in mascot costumes and riding electric scooters, they speed through the city's tunnels, letting the nosebleed become a symbol of resistance. Along the way, AI-generated fantasy images appear: ancient apemen, erupting volcanoes, a beating embryo and the boundless universe, turning their inner restlessness into surreal visions. This mockumentary adventure, which begins at a convenience store and ends at the light at the end of a tunnel, is not a declaration of total escape. As they laugh out loud in the bright light, a voice-over line, "We still have work tomorrow," pulls them back to reality. Using mockumentary and surrealist techniques to tear away the disguises of modern life, the film shows how ordinary people, caught between compromise and rebellion, use a "gentle riot" to stubbornly seek their own poetic moments in the gaps of daily repetition and redefine an "interesting" life.
