Synopsis

Tides is a film about women. Starting from a women's subject, it tells the story of Ji Miao, a girl in a coastal town who longs to leave the countryside. To escape the marriage her father has arranged, she decides to run away from the wedding to pursue her dream and realize her own worth. On the one hand, amid changing times, the film centers on its female lead, tries to break with the old "patriarchal language," and shapes her as a portrait of a new generation of young people, using a distinct and delicate female perspective to show the state of mind and inner struggles of young people today. On the other hand, it uses the clash between two generations' views to show how striving is understood in different eras and the pursuit of self-worth. The film combines bold, innovative techniques with music to give the audience a rich audiovisual experience and to convey its ideas.
