Synopsis

Outdoor blogger Li Moutian dies in a rock-climbing accident in the wild. Before her death she had quarreled with her father and was emotionally unstable, and suicide is suspected. Her father, consumed by guilt, tries to find out the truth and commissions the recovery of the data on his daughter's phone. Gradually, he finds that there is more to her death. On the surface, the recovery process pieces together fragments of the truth about her death; in fact, it pieces together fragments of family love. The film is inspired by the glitch art of experimental film and by the musique concrete artist Ryoji Ikeda, and it is fortunate to use Mr. Ikeda's music in an attempt to explore a narrative possibility for mobile phone films. At the same time, it is not an abstract experimental film; it takes the avant-garde glitch art of experimental film and puts it to work for the narrative (the film follows the process of repairing a phone, so the images themselves are full of glitches). Gradually, the images move from glitches to clarity, and the truth becomes clear as well.
