Herbal Tea
Herbal Tea
Synopsis
I grew up in Guangzhou and lost my job for writing the name of a herbal tea, bansha, with the wrong character. Then the stress gave me acne, and my roommate thought I had too much "heat" and took me to drink bansha tea. Just then I received mutton rice noodles sent from my hometown. Looking at the hard-to-swallow herbal tea and the "heating" mutton noodles, I began to think about belonging. What is a sense of belonging? What makes us feel we belong? I cannot speak Cantonese, and I cannot speak the Guizhou dialect either, so where am I from? With my friends looking after me, I realize that wherever there is love is my home, because belonging is people's attachment to love, and only when immersed in love do people take on the local culture.
