Voices of Others

Voices of Others

Finalist
Director: Yang Haoyuan

Synopsis

In our world, everyone is making their voice heard at every moment, some cynical, some full of compassion. From the internet users who insult you to the radio show you listen to every day, everyone is passing judgment on others. Whether you want to hear them or not, these voices find their way into your life. In documentary form, the film begins with a case of online abuse. The protagonist, a Douyin creator, is attacked in the comments under one of her videos. After reporting it to the police and appealing to Douyin with no result, she uninstalls the app. Two weeks later, she finds that she still thinks of the uninstalled "platform for voices" from time to time, and, filmed by a friend, she downloads Douyin again. We have no way to block out different "voices", no way to stop online mobs, and even less way to go offline from this "world network". All we can do is listen to our own hearts, choose the voices that are like ours and that support us, and keep going.
