Synopsis

He Pengcheng, a 32-year-old single, aimless young man in a small town, is buying up socks on the old street when he runs into Zhou Xiaochun, the class monitor he has secretly loved since primary school. She has not been back for ten years. He had heard she went abroad and married a foreigner, and she seemed a century away from him. This time, Zhou Xiaochun is divorced. She wants to visit the temple to pray but cannot find the way, so He Pengcheng takes her there. The small town holds memories they share. They eat and drink around town and wander about, spending an idle day together. Twenty years have given each of them their own stories. Between them there is politeness, awkwardness, misunderstanding and banter, as well as an unspoken understanding that stays within bounds. The two gradually sink into memories of the past, but as it grows dark they are repeatedly interrupted by Zhou Xiaochun's work calls, and He Pengcheng realizes that in the end they do not belong to the same world.
