Synopsis

Zhou Chuqiao secretly signs an agreement to voluntarily give up the gaokao, the national college entrance exam, without telling her mother, and is nearly found out. Her secretly pierced ears keep bleeding, and she can only treat them herself. At dinner, Yang Juan pushes her daughter about her studies, and Zhou Chuqiao leaves home in a huff. She goes to her close friend Guo Ling, and the two imagine their future studying abroad. The easy relationship between Guo Ling and her mother makes her envious. That night, Zhou Chuqiao secretly calls her father and asks him for money to go to Hong Kong to take an exam for studying abroad. After school the next day, Zhou Chuqiao and Guo Ling go to buy milk tea and happen to see Yang Juan coming to the school. Learning that Zhou Chuqiao forged her signature behind her back, Yang Juan is angry and hurt. Zhou Chuqiao apologizes to her mother, but Yang Juan refuses to talk to her. Zhou Chuqiao finally explodes and says what she really thinks. Unable to calm down, Yang Juan burns herself while cooking at home and cries alone. Having stormed off, Zhou Chuqiao calls her father but gets no help from him. The next morning, after staying out all night, Zhou Chuqiao returns home and finds her mother has waited up for her all night. Yang Juan tells her what is in her heart and leaves. In her bedroom, Zhou Chuqiao unexpectedly finds on the desk a pair of gold earrings shaped like flying birds, a gift from her mother.
