No Crying in the House
No Crying in the House
Synopsis
After her daughter's death, Yinyin, who comes from the city, withdraws to a Tibetan area, where her own illness torments her day and night. Still, she carefully keeps order in the house: burning incense every day, setting out two sets of tableware, listening to Tibetan-language radio, building a "pure land" of the heart through ritual. A phone call breaks the calm. When she has to decide to leave this land, she falls into a strange loop on the grassland, repeatedly meeting a mysterious woman who collects stones. Finally, Yinyin hangs a painted wooden box holding her daughter's belongings on a sacred tree. When she returns to the wooden house, there is an urgent knock at the door. The door opens onto an empty room, the dust sheets thick with dust, and the traces of the life she so carefully kept up are as if they had never existed.
