My Mother's Pain and Mine

Creative Statement

I returned to a hometown that was no longer familiar to keep my mother company on the last stretch of her life. It was as if I went through her whole life with her again: its love, friendship, youth and dreams. Through the changing seasons in my hometown and elsewhere, and the small details of daily life, I had to face again certain people and feelings that for a long time I had missed or even wanted to escape. Now they teach me how to live, how to face life and death, and how to love.

Synopsis

A reflection on the relationship between children and parents. From the moment a child is born, this love is meant to lead to separation and independence, yet it remains tightly bound by forces that cannot be resisted. What kind of paradox is this? Where we come from and where we go in life seem to be decided early on, in our relationship with our family and our parents.
