Logline
A story set in southwest China about a troubled middle-aged man and a troubled teenager.
At a difficult time, with the shadow of COVID-19 not yet fully lifted, the comedy Oops, One More Round! is a film worth seeing that is undaunted by the downturn. There are three reasons: First, it is fun and entertaining; Second, it is reliable and feasible; Third, it shows warmth and concern. The flashy colors of the "ghost fire" motorbikes give strong visual impact, and with their built-in danger and stunts, the film is fun and entertaining. "Reliable and feasible" breaks down into three terms: feasibility, cost and risk. Judging from the performance of earlier films such as Chongqing Hot Pot and A Cool Fish, realist crime comedies have done well, so the project is feasible. Finally, behind the "ghost fire" teens lies the loneliness and helplessness of left-behind children, a real picture of China today. Paying attention to them and keeping them company through film is the film's original intention, as well as its attitude and its warmth. Fun and entertaining, reliable and feasible, showing warmth and concern: this is the film Oops, One More Round!
The thief Santai and his accomplice break into a home and steal some valuables and a safe. Just as they are about to get away, they run into a police crackdown on unlicensed motorbikes, and the safe, loaded on the unlicensed motorbike used in the burglary, is towed to the police station and impounded. Following the police to the station, Santai discovers that it is hiring a security guard, and that the guards' dormitory is separated from the storeroom holding the safe by a single wall. Santai decides to apply for the job and risk one more round: stealing the safe back out of the police station. He gets the job and is eager to start digging through the wall, but his plan is interrupted by a teenager. Slippers, a teen who rides a souped-up "ghost fire" motorbike, tries to steal back his impounded bike and is caught and brought to the station. Instead of detention, the station chief, Yana, assigns him community service and has him live in Santai's dormitory. WTF!? Santai does everything he can to drive his "roommate" away, but just as he is about to succeed, Slippers discovers his secret plan to break through the wall. With no other choice, Santai agrees to help Slippers steal back his motorbike. In the course of the theft, the two losers from the bottom of society unexpectedly strike up a friendship...
