synopsis
It's a tender story about time, a brief family history with tears in its laughter; everyone can find their own life in the movie.
Southland Mist is a tender history of time, presenting the minutiae of the flow of time within a family; the images make the passage of time or the aging of the grandchildren visible to the naked eye. If the theme of "time" is subdivided further, it is in a sense a youth movie: grandson Wang Qian is the "youthful bitterness" of his first taste of bitterness, and the fissures and growth that come with it; his middle-aged father, Wang Yunjiang, is "youth" (romantic and poetic), and "youth" (romantic and poetic), and "youth" (romantic and poetic). His middle-aged father, Wang Yunjiang, is the "passed youth" (the romantic and poetic college campus of the 80s), a kind of gift and sentimentality that leaves traces of the past; Grandpa is the "hot-blooded youth in the last stage of his life", with responsibility and companionship, violent and tender. The three threads are mutually reinforcing, outlining the cycle of time, and everyone can find his or her own shadow in the movie. In the end, Grandma's farewell in the romantic dream of the "airy idyll" is a warm deconstruction of death. In this "post-epidemic era", where there is a serious lack of death education and collective distress and anxiety, this definition and expression of "love" and "the true nature of life" may lead to a certain kind of driving force. The movie will be a popular favorite among moviegoers.
A family of three generations living in quiet waters is like three cross-sections of life. However, the demented Grandma's return to her hometown is getting worse and worse, and in the chaotic world formed by her hallucinations, there are all the chickens, ducks, geese and dogs of the old family, the three-quarters of an acre of land, as well as the unknown memories of her suffering in the depths of the past years. In the face of the family which has been driven into a frenzy by Grandma, Grandpa, a rotten old man, while grumpily scolding her for being "old but not dead, causing harm to others and herself", secretly starts to build a grand idyll in the air for her in the sky above the reinforced concrete city (rooftop of the neighborhood), like a fool who removes mountains with his own hands. Grandpa tries to fulfill Grandma's wish with this kind of "re-enactment" and accompany her in her journey towards death. The night before the typhoon, Grandpa collapses in front of his door, revealing the secret "idyllic garden project", which invariably becomes a hidden force of emotion for the other members of the family to solve their own time constraints. Seventeen-year-old grandson Wang Qian begins to crack and grow up amidst the frustration of a long-lost love on campus, while his middle-aged father Wang Yunjiang also struggles to get over his own time anxiety and career crisis. The seasons flow like streams, the grass and trees in the South spring and fall, and the "growth" and "death" of life are wrapped in the warm and humid vapor of the South, creating subtle "connections" and "repetitions" in each of them. "Repetition" ......
