Creative Statement

Forced to leave the grasslands with a wolf cub, the girl Yan goes through many hardships to help the cub return to the grasslands in search of a freedom that seems out of reach.

Synopsis

Yanzi, a 16-year-old girl who hates wolves, and her mother rescue a wolf cub from poachers, and her mother is injured. Yanzi reluctantly takes on the task of delivering the cub to her grandmother's home. A journey that should take half a day seems, after one mishap after another, as if it will never end. First she runs into a family from the big city with a chubby boy, and after a quarrel with this odd family she is deceived by a fake biologist. Yanzi begins to doubt everyone and their lies, told for all kinds of reasons. While fleeing, she is hit by a tranquilizer dart and falls into the water, and is rescued by a mute boy. That night under a bridge, past their misunderstandings, the two fall asleep comforting each other. The next day Yanzi brings the cub to her grandmother's home, but her grandmother refuses to help look after it: Yanzi's father died years ago in a heavy snowstorm while saving a wolf. Just then the cub is seized by poachers again. Yanzi falls out with her grandmother and follows the cub to the city. One danger after another puts Yanzi in peril, but with the mute boy's help once more, the two rescue the cub and destroy the fake biologist's lair.
