Logline
A witness to a child sexual abuse case must face the childhood trauma buried deep inside her in order to rescue the victim.
Don't Make a Sound is a film about child sexual abuse, with particular attention to victims who stay silent. Many children, for various reasons, choose to keep quiet after being abused, and some hide the secret for decades. The shadow of childhood affects their lives in many ways and does lasting harm. As filmmakers, we believe it is necessary to pay attention to these silent victims and to encourage them to step out of the shadow and live on with hope.
Xia Tong, past thirty, is a listless, defeated woman who has failed at most things. Her mother, a head of surgery, is both disappointed in her and worried about her, and the two often quarrel. After one scolding from her mother, Xia Tong is hit by a car and injures her head. In hospital she gets to know Xiaoxue, a little girl in the same ward. Xiaoxue is withdrawn: she refuses to eat or cooperate with treatment and often locks herself in the bathroom. Late one night, Xia Tong sees a male doctor take Xiaoxue out of the ward and sexually assault her, but Xiaoxue dares not admit it. Xia Tong calls the police, but the investigation finds that no doctor assaulted Xiaoxue, and that it was all a delusion caused by Xia Tong's brain injury. After she leaves hospital, Xia Tong's childhood memories gradually return, and the truth begins to surface. Her mother, who has known all along, keeps silent and will not let her pursue it. Xia Tong realises that the assault on Xiaoxue was not entirely imagined. She sets out alone to find the truth and rescue Xiaoxue.
