Synopsis

Around Grain in Ear, a solar term, Nanwan Village in Pingnan County is full of the busy, simple life of farm work. Lu Daoyuan, a villager born and raised here, has farmed the fields for many years. Rice transplanting is a race against time, and the elderly Lu Daoyuan works quickly and nimbly, bent over for long hours planting seedlings. His face bears the marks of the years, yet he still holds fast to his village and his fields. In their spare time, his innocent grandson and he pick up river snails in the terraced fields and eat cool watermelon, enjoying the summer while quietly watching the seedlings grow. Far from the city, in a quiet village, the film records the most genuine life of farmers in their natural surroundings. Shortly before Grain in Ear, Nanwan Village in Pingcheng Township is as calm as in past years, its terraced fields rising layer upon layer at the village entrance. What is different from usual is that the villagers are busy working in the fields. Among them, villager Lu Daoyuan has farmed and lived here for more than 30 years and knows every terrace and every seedling. With a Huawei phone, we recorded the daily life of his family at work and at rest. Their joys, sorrows and worries are all tied to these rice fields. The sound of running water in the fields, birdsong from the nearby hills, the patter of raindrops on the stone path... it is all so different from the city. Through this documentary, we hope viewers can see and hear a life in the fields utterly unlike city life.
