Synopsis
The film tells the story of Lao Cai, a rural man past the usual age of marriage who remains at the bottom of society despite his university education, as he resists outdated ideas about marriage and childbearing and gradually finds himself. Lao Cai hopes to prove his worth by writing science fiction, but in reality he is tied to a factory job that barely pays a living, and nearly everyone around him urges him to give up his fantasies, go on blind dates, marry, have children and carry on the family line. Through one blind date after another, Lao Cai comes to see that only by loving bravely and continuing to write can he break the shackles of fate.
