This movie is about a rainy night in an industrial town in late 2007. Liu Weidong, a retired police officer who has been living alone for many years, is inadvertently involved in a criminal case in his neighbor's house. On the night when a man, Lin Guodong, once again lost his temper after drinking and committed domestic violence against his wife, Li Xiujuan, Li's son Lin Mu, in the course of protecting his mother and defending himself, caused the death of his adoptive father, Lin Guodong. Li Xiu Juan chose to turn herself in, wanting to take the blame for the manslaughter of her son Lin Mu, who had a bright future ahead of him. Liu Weidong, who was unintentionally involved in the case, eventually makes his own choice, a sixty-year old criminal police officer, chooses to hold the final umbrella of protection for the tortured mother and son. And the child Lin Mu, a kind but helpless teenager, also after the struggle, choose to face and undertake everything in front of him.
