Synopsis

In Wuhan in May and June, the sun often shines in the east while it rains in the west; the air is hot and humid, and everything is damp. A few clothes hang on the balcony; the air conditioner labors, blowing air that is not cold. As the air conditioner and the fan break down one after another, Li Aizhen, about to leave home, leaves some sour plum drink and tells their son to put it all in the fridge. Chen Haiyang sits slumped on the sofa like a lump of mud, and his tiresome manner speeds up Li Aizhen's departure, while their son, in his usual way, holds off the mood. When it is about to rain, Chen Haiyang takes in the laundry; one of Li Aizhen's garments falls from the rack, and as he tries to hook it back he faints. When he comes to, he slowly realizes there is something he should understand. Sour plum drink in summer: some like it sour, some like it sweet; it can quench your thirst or set your teeth on edge. In the same way, a marriage, never easy, takes effort from both sides to keep going. That was once a love that made our hearts beat.
