Finalist
Director: Luo Mansi

Synopsis

Beijing Renjia, a football team founded twenty years ago, reaches the final of the CFA Cup for the first time. Team member Rang brings his son Qianqian to this former Chinese Super League home stadium to experience the atmosphere. But Qianqian, strongly influenced by his mother, has doubts about the safety of football and has no interest in his father's former professional career. Rang longs to start in front of his family, but coach Liu turns him down, which leaves him dejected. On the eve of the match, questioned by his wife for quitting his job as a youth coach, Rang loses patience and declares he will no longer give in to reality. The match begins, and Liu's attacking tactics upset the substitutes; Rang's objections get nowhere. At half-time the score is 0-0 and the players are exhausted. Qianqian's phone battery has died and he wants to go home, but Rang insists on staying until the end, and tension between father and son runs high. In the second half, Liu is sent off. With one substitution left, Rang sends Old Ding on and takes over as head coach himself. He sets up a 5-4-1 formation and stresses defense and counterattack. The match goes to a penalty shootout, and Beijing Renjia wins the first title in the team's history. As the team celebrates, Rang tells Liu he will give his shirt number to a new player next season. Meanwhile, Qianqian is unmoved by the victory and still tells his father he does not like football. Rang accepts it calmly and decides to return to his job as a youth coach. For through this match he has grasped a philosophy of life: giving way is also a way of stepping up. With passion, everyone can find their own way onto the field.
