The Wind Brings the Dawn
The Wind Brings the Dawn
Synopsis
This is a short story about a son who misses his late mother. In the summer dawn, Chen Chuankai rows a boat on a lake. Watching the ripples, he unintentionally drifts into a dream. A little girl suddenly appears, and Chen goes from treating her as a stranger to trusting her. In front of a vending machine, what the girl says to him about drinking ice water in summer, and about often being ill as a child, gives him a strange sense of familiarity toward her. A light rain sends them to shelter under a tree. Chen Chuankai takes out an old photo album and is gradually drawn into memories of his mother. When he is sad, the girl's actions comfort him. As they part, Chen Chuankai still has something he wants to say to the girl, words he has kept in his heart for years: what he never finished saying to his mother. When he wakes from the dream, Chen Chuankai has to say goodbye to the past.
