The Red Umbrella
The Red Umbrella
Synopsis
She is 24, and she is 80. A painting, a train carriage, a strange journey. If you were given a chance to glimpse the future, and learned in advance that your life would remain ordinary, would you still choose to love life? Would you still want to be that ordinary yet unique self? Starting from a visit to a museum exhibition, the short unfolds a journey across parallel time and space, with a red umbrella linking two overlapping lives. The film has no dialogue and relies as much as possible on images to tell the story. In this first year of AI creation, the short uses live-action footage shot on mobile phones as its core material and converts it into animation with an AI model we trained. With this, we are looking for a new basis for filmmaking between human imagination, the convenience of the phone and the power of technology, and we hope to see the boundaries of mobile phone filmmaking pushed further and further.
