Synopsis

In 2022, just as China's Tiangong space station is fully completed, Cheng Xinghe, a Chinese student in the United States, learns that his grandfather is critically ill. The old man, a former Chinese rocket engineer, has one last wish: to see China's own space station pass over the Earth. To fulfill it, Cheng Xinghe sets off alone in a foreign land with his camera. He overcomes many cultural and technical obstacles but gets nothing, and a sudden rainstorm even ruins his camera. At the end of his rope, he learns that his grandfather's condition has suddenly worsened, and under this last straw he breaks down. After calming down, he comes up with the idea of shooting with his phone instead of the camera, and asks Uncle Wang, who works at a space agency, for help. With the help of his roommate James, Cheng Xinghe finally captures the trajectory of the Tiangong space station in the starry sky, fulfilling his grandfather's last wish. In a dream he meets his grandfather across mountains and seas, which eases his regret at not being able to see him one last time, and he truly understands and carries on the selfless love of his grandfather's generation.
