Synopsis

"I" grew up in rural Anhui and left for Beijing for high school. My grandmother's Huangmei opera became this young man's link to his longing for home. Following Huangmei opera, I set off on a journey in search of the sounds of home. Through my grandmother's role as a cultural propaganda worker in a production team in the 1970s, I explored the plain, unadorned charm of Huangmei model operas. To fulfill my grandmother's wish to hear the classic Huangmei opera piece The Female Consort Prince, I visited three veteran Huangmei opera artists, all of whom carry on the legacy of the master Yan Fengying; though they have not seen one another for years, they still miss one another. Returning to Anqing, the home of Huangmei opera, I not only remembered Yan Fengying but also witnessed the present-day development and inheritance of Huangmei opera. At the end, the film hopes to use the sounds of home to express longing to our compatriots in Taiwan across the Strait, and wishes for the early reunification of the motherland.
