Synopsis

It is the last summer vacation of college. Undecided between graduate school and a job, the protagonist finds the indecision growing stronger through the tedium of a summer job. After one late shift, the frustration that has built up finds an outlet that overrides reality; unimportant things are forced into importance and lash at the hesitant present. The boy makes up a story and locks himself inside it; the girl, trapped in disappointment and anger, gradually opens the heart she opens once every night. On this night after the late shift, emotions are both simple and complex. The night seems to concern only one's own experience: the people recently met and the things recently gone through, all experience played out. It is also the whole process of writing a story, from building the characters and handling the plot, to the characters gaining self-awareness, filling in the plot as if completing blanks, and a revised ending.
