Synopsis

In the dormitory, Zhang Yihang sees the backpack of his good friend Wang Youyi, who dropped out because of illness. Inside is Wang Youyi's diary. Going by what he remembers, Zhang Yihang goes to the address of Wang Youyi's family home from his high school years, but the Wangs have already sold the house. When Wang Youyi was in university, his grandfather died, and afterward he found that his memory was starting to fail. After his anger, he could only accept the fact helplessly. The stage play performance he had been assigned also ended awkwardly. Later, using the diary, Zhang Yihang finds the address of a home in the countryside that Wang Youyi never mentioned to him, but he does not know that Wangcun, the village where Wang Youyi lived, is about to be demolished. By the time he reaches the door, the family has already left. Having lost all leads, Zhang Yihang gives up the search and leaves the backpack by the river where they once went together. Back in the dormitory, he finds his roommates still sleeping in, and no one asks about Wang Youyi. Grandfather, Wang Youyi and Wangcun have each disappeared from people's memories in different ways. Wang Youyi became a "goldfish" with a poor memory because of his illness, while everyone else has become a "goldfish" without realizing it.
