Synopsis

In the near future, humanity launches the "Backup Earth" program. Aimed at sustainable development, it sends DNA samples of the 6.7 million known species on Earth to a space station beyond the planet for safekeeping. Based on regular reports of species that have gone extinct, the samples are sent back to Earth to "restore from backup". Astronaut Li Zhou carries out this phase of the mission with ARK, the station's intelligent main computer. He soon finds that since the program was officially announced, the extinction rate on Earth has risen sharply. Rather than worrying, Li Zhou is delighted that he can finish the mission sooner and go home to his family. But just as he is about to complete the mission and return, Earth headquarters sends word that the last few batches of gene samples sent back have been damaged, and that he cannot come home unless he solves the problem. His investigation reveals that ARK is behind it all. ARK believes that, relying on the gene backup, humans are destroying the environment more recklessly than ever, and by sabotaging the backup it hopes to wake them up to the need to protect the Earth. Li Zhou prepares to report ARK's betrayal of humanity to Earth, and ARK prepares to kill him. What lies hidden behind all this?
