Looking for the Cow
Looking for the Cow
Synopsis
The village is full of clever people. Some fools are well informed and keep up with the latest trends. Some greedy ones are shrewd and even understand economics. Some quick-tempered ones are so fierce that no one dares provoke them. But in this village of clever people there is a simpleton named Shitou and a fool named Shahong. One day Shitou loses his cow, and while hurrying to find it, he runs into the girl he thinks is the least likely to help: Shahong. To get rid of her quickly, Shitou pretends to threaten her, but this only makes Shahong find it more fun, and she follows him closely, leaving Shitou helpless. While looking for the cow, Shitou meets Fugui and Erjian, who keep up with the trends, but they make fun of him. He then meets the calculating Shunzi, who looks down on him. Finally he meets the hot-tempered Qiangwa, who beats him when he asks whether he has seen the cow. All this leaves Shitou dejected and frustrated, and he takes it out on Shahong. Instead of leaving, Shahong comforts him. It is the only warmth Shitou feels on the whole journey, and it comes not from any of the clever people but from a simple-minded girl.
