Director: Zhang Xinyan

Synopsis

Lao Zhang, a traditional lion dance artisan, comes alone to train at the lion dance hall that was once so lively. On his way home he sees young people today and cannot understand them. His daughter comes home from university, and the whole family sits down to dinner. As soon as Lao Zhang sees her, he starts criticizing her for not being serious, while she resents her father's condescending manner. Lao Zhang has a big argument with his daughter over her clothes and interests. Just then, he hears a radio announcement that a TV station is holding a performance, and he is eager to use the chance to revive the lion dance. Lao Zhang finds the person in charge of the program, only to be told that the show wants only young people and that no one likes watching lion dance anymore. After Lao Zhang's persistent pleading, the director reluctantly watches him perform once. Too eager to show what he can do, Lao Zhang attempts a difficult leap and injures his leg. His daughter hears the news and comes back to see him, but the visit leads to another quarrel, and she storms out. Without realizing it, she walks to the shrine where she has prayed since childhood, is filled with emotion, and makes a quiet resolution. She forms her own street dance troupe and carefully designs a performance combining street dance and lion dance, anxiously waiting for her father to arrive. Though Lao Zhang says he will not go, he comes to the venue and sees the performance his daughter designed for him. In the final leap, father and daughter reach an understanding of the heart, accept each other's ways of life, and are reconciled.
