Son of the Grassland

Creative Statement

Lao Bu was adopted by herders as a child and grew up on the grassland, where he and the spirited horse Black Wind are as close as father and son. Recently the government designated the grassland a protected area, and Lao Bu has been ordered to move to the city by a deadline. To find Black Wind a new home, Lao Bu leads his beloved horse off the grassland on a long and lonely journey.

About the Director

Graduated from the Communication University of Shanxi. Member of the China Film Association and visiting professor at the Communication University of Shanxi. Main works include Fading Fragrance and The Stranger. Works have won several awards at festivals in China and abroad, including the China Golden Rooster Film Festival, the Tokyo International Film Festival, the Montreal World Film Festival, the Beijing International Film Festival and the South Africa International Film Festival. Juror of the Tong Ye Honors section of the 6th Pingyao International Film Festival and final-round juror of the 2nd VITA Horizon Chinese Youth Film Festival.
