The Monkey King: Uproar in Heaven is China's first full-length color animated feature. It is one of the high points of Chinese animation and a representative work of the Chinese school of animation. Adapted from the first seven chapters of the classic novel Journey to the West, it brings Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, a hero of Chinese mythology, to the screen in animated form. Its art style draws on Chinese national traditions and culture; on a decorative visual basis, it combines the fluid movement and imaginative techniques particular to animation. The film is an important milestone in the history of Chinese animation.
