The story began with a flight of fancy about The Peach Blossom Spring: Could the cave leading into the Peach Blossom Spring be a passage between parallel worlds? Could the Peach Blossom Spring be a parallel world built like ours but on a completely different timeline? And if there is one such timeline, could there be a second and a third, or even countless ones?
Liu Yu brings the Eastern Jin dynasty to an end and founds the Liu Song dynasty, but he is already old when he becomes its first emperor. In the last year of his life he learns that Tao Yuanming has written The Peach Blossom Spring. Despite his illness, he goes to ask Tao Yuanming about it, hoping to find the entrance to the Peach Blossom Spring and return to the moment he first met his wife. As a young man Liu Yu was only a gambler who lived by fishing and weaving straw sandals, until meeting Zang Aiqin changed his life. To improve his family's situation he joined the army to make a name for himself, and so missed the chance to see his sick wife one last time. To return to the world before his wife's death, Liu Yu searches again and again for the entrance to the Peach Blossom Spring, entering new parallel worlds and taking the place of his other selves. Along the way he removes every obstacle and rises step by step to the throne. After taking leave of Tao Yuanming, Liu Yu finally finds the entrance once more. Will he be able to return, as he wishes, to the moment he first met his wife?
