Day Is Done

Creative Statement

The pandemic struck in 2020. At the end of that year I suddenly received the news that my grandfather had died, and I made my way back from Beijing to my hometown in Shanxi. At thirty, I had lost a family member and was facing difficult choices about career and starting a family. Unsure of what lay ahead, I chose to make a film as a keepsake. That is why, at thirty, I wanted to make this film.

Synopsis

As the Lunar New Year approaches, 30-year-old Liang Zhe returns to his hometown in Shanxi for his grandfather's funeral. On the way from the county town to the village he takes four different means of transport. On board he unexpectedly runs into elders, friends and his first love, none of whom he has seen for years.
