In middle age, social relationships become complicated, and people play different roles with the different people in their lives. By showing how two middle-aged fathers behave in different relationships, the film tries to offer audiences some comfort and insight. Middle age brings one crisis after another; how to adjust one's mindset to deal with them is what life is about.
Yang Zixi was raised by two fathers with very different personalities and opposing values. She has the love of two fathers, but is caught between her birth father, Yang Tianming, and her stepfather, Lei Dong, and works hard to keep the peace between them. On her 18th birthday, while both fathers are each doing their best to prepare her coming-of-age ceremony, she runs away from home. The two fathers are forced to set out together to find her. On this search they look back at the past, change themselves and, together with their daughter, start a new stage of life.
