Jaden, a music student born in Myanmar and raised in the United States, makes his way through the crowded streets of Yangon to research his thesis on traditional Burmese music. His guide, Hnin Thuzar, a beautiful and proud Burmese dancer, accompanies him through the distinctive landscapes of Bagan, Mandalay and Inle Lake in Shan State. When he asks her to help him find his birth parents, their journey takes on another dimension. The more he gets to know her, the clearer their cultural gap becomes, but a tragic accident makes him realize that he has fallen in love with her. Directed by Christina Kyi, Mudras Calling is both a personal search for one's roots and a love story. Even as he is drawn to Hnin's beauty, strength and self-awareness, his world falls into turmoil. As he explores Myanmar, discovering its timeless landscapes and the deep-rooted beliefs of its many tribes, he finds unexpected truths about himself. When Jaden is provoked into questioning his own worldview, Hnin puts up a fight.
