Cinematographer, Cliff Walkers

Jury Citation

Cliff Walkers combines realism and classicism. With strong visual impact and a truthful, nuanced visual experience, it conveys a harsh, cold psychological state. The wind and snow that run through the film create the distinctive atmosphere of a spy film. The cinematography shapes the characters vividly and drives the plot, and the practical and virtual lighting, in an elegant realist style, is joined naturally and smoothly from start to finish, contributing greatly to the film's success. Winner of Best Cinematography.

Cliff Walkers: Synopsis

In the 1930s, four Communist agents trained in the Soviet Union form a team and return to China to carry out a secret operation code-named "Utrah". Betrayed by a traitor, they are caught in the enemy's net from the moment they parachute in. Can the comrades escape? Can the mission be completed? As the snow keeps falling, the team, standing "on the edge of the cliff", faces a severe test.
