In One Second, Fan Wei plays a film projectionist in a village in western China in the 1960s and 1970s. With precise control of the role and a performance steeped in the texture of the period, he presents many facets of the character, blending his own qualities with the role and conveying both the worldly shrewdness of an ordinary man in particular circumstances and the kindness deep in his nature. Winner of Best Supporting Actor.
One Second: Synopsis
The film tells of Zhang Jiusheng, who has missed a film screening, and Liu Guinü, whose paths become entwined because of a film. The story draws on director Zhang Yimou's early experiences and follows his consistent style of cultural remembrance and searching for roots.
