Jury Citation
The jury found that The Age of Struggle uses the "Chinese Dream" of five representative Chinese people to trace the historical course of China's forty years of reform and opening up and its sweeping scale. It follows ordinary people through a major history, using a narrow entry point to open onto a broad view. Moving from individual cases to the whole, its structure is clear; set against rich historical material, the fates of individuals come to the fore, reflecting this era of striving in a vivid and lively way.
