Nineties
The 34th China Golden Rooster Awards

Synopsis

Their homeland fell in war, and their universities were occupied and bombed. A group of students aged eighteen or nineteen set out in haste and walked south across Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan, finally forming a temporary university on the Kunming plateau: National Southwestern Associated University, founded jointly by Tsinghua, Peking and Nankai universities. They crossed the city to attend "the best Chinese literature lectures in history", listened to Toselli's Serenade, ran from air raid alarms with their professors while clutching their books, and joined the Flying Tigers... For these "nineties" elders, all now over ninety, the university is not a sealed-off piece of history but a memory of youth as vivid as ever. Chen-Ning Yang, Xu Yuanchong, Pan Jiluan, Yang Yi, Wang Xiji, Ma Shitu... Sixteen alumni with an average age of over 96 "star" together, taking viewers back to an era of war and of brilliant minds.
